- Tags no longer play a vital role in SEO optimization; Gone are the days when filling in meta descriptions with keyword variations guaranteed high page rankings. However, thorough research and the use of unique keywords in titles and descriptions can still aid in your search for a better ranking.
- Your domain name is very important and it is advisable to include your keywords in it. I suggest you use hyphens to separate your keywords; Choose a domain name that is readable: for example, “handmade-womens-clothing.com” is much easier to read than “handmadewomensclothing.com”. Also, search engines have a better chance of finding your site. And I recommend that you choose a domain.com or.net.
- Links and backlinks are the order of the day in today’s search engine optimization technology. Every effort should be made to find backlinks from reputable sites. You should keep in mind that while backlinks are very important in achieving high page ranking, it is quality that matters, not quantity. Not only that, the relevance of the link is important. Search engines may even penalize you if your blog design is deemed to contain an excessive number of irrelevant lead creation.
- Having a backlink from a high ranking site, for example Wikipedia with a PR7, is very beneficial because the algorithms that search engines use dictate that your site must be very important, if Wikipedia was linked to you. Essentially, your blog receives a proportion of its value from public relations. Google’s Matt Cutts gave a talk some time ago on SEO optimization where he discussed, in depth, the importance of backlinks. By the way, part of the talk was endorsing the effectiveness of WordPress.
- If possible, link to the .edu and .gov websites, because they are highly valued by search engines. You can compile a list of .edu sites by entering the following query term in the Google search box: inurl: .edu / forum. This will return a list of educational establishments that have forums that you might want to participate in and later link to.
- Personally, I am not enthusiastic about buying backlinks when working on any search engine optimization campaign, the obvious reason is that their quality is invariably poor. If you must buy backlinks, I recommend that you check the cache date of the web page that your blog will link to and that it will rank in Google. The more recent the cache date, the better. You can check the date in Google by entering the search term: “cache: URL”, where URL is the page to which it will be linked. If the date is older than a month or the page doesn’t exist, it’s not worth buying.
- Submit comments and posts on as many high-ranking blogs as possible. One method you can use to identify blogs that allow posts and comments is to enter this Google search query: inurl: blog “your keyword” “leave a comment.” This will return a list of blogs (related to your keyword) that accept comments from readers.
- When designing your blog, keep in mind that the number of images should be kept to a minimum. Simply put, search engines crawl text and not images. Also, an excessive number of images slows down the loading time of your blog.
- Submit your URL to search engines, using one of the many SEO optimization tools, including the free version of CEO. The tools give you a selection of search engines that you want your blog to be submitted to and make bulk submission possible.
- Post new content on your blog frequently. I suggest at least twice a week. That gives your blog a better chance of being crawled. Make sure to include keywords in the title and body of your posts.
- Optimize the text in your RSS feeds by including keywords in titles and descriptions. Remember not to saturate the description with keywords, but to give it a natural flow and make it understandable.
- The general blog design should have a site map. Makes it easier for search engines to navigate your blog. You can use XML-Sitemap, which is one of the available plugins.
- Diversify your blog content … include podcasts, videos, news, social media content, preferably not all on the same blog. That could have an adverse effect on the performance and load time of your blog.
